YOUR
CHANCE TO DANCE – INTRODUCING SAME SEX SALSA!
Have you got a natural talent for dancing? Have you always
wanted to try Latin Dance but never dared? Are you Australia’s
next undiscovered talent?
This is your chance! Beginning 5 July 2007 a new partnership
led by the Queensland Association for Health Communities
(QAHC) will launch Mismo Sexo Salsa. The launch involves
a course of Beginner Salsa lessons aimed directly at Same
Sex Couples. This will be the first dance company in Australia
to cater specifically to the gay community.
The course is 8 weeks in length and
covers all the basics of Salsa moves and techniques. “Salsa
is sexy, fast and impressive” says qahc, “It’s
a fantastic social dance and easy to learn.”
“We ran a one off Salsa Lesson
for the gay community a few months ago” explains qahc
“and it was so much fun! Everyone had a great time
and there were some fantastic dancers.” This event
sparked the collaboration that has led to “Mismo Sexo
Salsa” which means “Same Sex Salsa” in
Spanish. The course will be held at the QAHC building, 30
Helen St Newstead and a percentage of proceeds will go directly
to supporting the work of the QAHC.
Interested? Couples need absolutely no experience and are
guaranteed a great time. Participants will walk out of the
beginner course with the ability to go out socially and
enjoy the Latin Dance scene. High level courses will also
be offered in the future.
“Salsa dancing shouldn’t be just for heterosexual
couples” says qahc, “we want to create a dance
community that supports Same Sex couples.”
Qahc invites all same sex couples to give Latin dancing
a go “If you can walk, you can dance salsa and you’ll
not only learn a lot but have a fantastic time doing it”.
